We are besotted and obsessed with Yee King Noodles, our current fave hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant.
When we dine out we like to make it an adventure, to be tourists in our own city. Tonight we walk from Newtown via Broadway to Circular Quay to see the Opera House lit up all purdy, and back through the possum lair of Hyde Park to Chinatown.
Then it's bevvy time at the Covent Garden, the finest people-watching pub in Sydney. The question of "where to eat" is a no-brainer, we are still obsessed with Yee King Noodles in Sussex Street Chinatown, it's our favourite feed at the moment.
Tea is plonked on the table as soon as we sit down, always a good sign.
The Deep Fried Pork Ribs with Shallots is misleadingly named. It may have been deep fried but it has also been braised slowly until the meat falls off the bone, it seems like it has been slow cooked for hours. $14.80.
This dish is sensational: the pork is rich and sweet, with a dark soy based sauce and shallots.
And when we say the meat falls off the bone, we mean it, it is amazingly tender. Miss Chicken says it's her favourite Northern Chinese dish of all time. If you want to try it and forget the name just ask for the pork dish that is served in foil.
We also order eggplant with pork mince in 'hot and garlic' sauce. $12.80.
The eggplant is delicious, smokey and decadent, cooked in lots of oil.
We ate here last week and plan to come back many times to work our way through the menu, there are just so many interesting dishes that we have never seen anywhere else. This is one of our all time favourite restaurants in Sydney. Get into it.
